The goal of the ICU-DG is to provide a means for Kantara Initiative participants to remain up to date with the status of tracked identity projects.  There are a number of projects that, for various reasons, are not visible enough to Kantara Initiative participants, let alone the wider community.  The projects will be identified and tracked by the ICU-DG which will release updates as a weekly podcast series tentatively titled the "Identity Matters Podcast: A Kantara Initiative".

Activities of the ICU-DG include:

  • Weekly podcasts (three per month) of recorded interviews about specific tracked projects.
  • Monthly podcast of a teleconference in which participants provide short updates on various tracked projects.
  • RSS feed of blog posts highlighting tracked projects and associated links referenced in each podcast.

NOTE: The ICU-DG is not intended as a forum for doing work on the tracked projects or debating their merits per se, but rather as a mechanism for quickly and easily sharing update reports.

ICU-DG will operate under the "Option Apache" as outlined in the document "Kantara Initiative: Intellectual Property Rights Policies", Version 1.0, dated April 3, 2009, with the proviso that all
contributions to the Discussion Group are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/).

  • Server space for the podcast MP3 files (about 30MB each).
  • Server location for the podcast series RSS feed.
  • Registration of and support for iTunes and Feedburner podcast feeds.
  • RSS feed for weekly blog post updates (Confluence?).
  • Marketing effort to promote the ICU-DG podcast series.

NOTE: It is assumed that the teleconference system provides the ability to record teleconferences and save the recordings as local MP3s.  If that is not the case, an additional recording mechanism may be required.
