1. Email participant survey

Only four responses from Responses were received from four WG participants were received.  Of the four, two indicated willingness to review documents that others create, as well as attend teleconferences, one indicated .  One response suggested the WG should take a somewhat different direction, and one was willing to assist with creation of the WG deliverables/whitepapers as currently defined.

  • Participants are volunteers with other job responsibilities that have higher priority.
  • Participants may also be active in other volunteer activities, each with its own set of meetings and work items.
  • Participants may be interested in other aspects of consumer identity.
  • Participants may simply be interested only just in being on the mailing list to receive WG updates, etc.

We discussed possible ways to achieve greater participation.  One suggestion was to send out a list of those areas of interest discussed on the call, and solicit other possible areas of interest from participants.

2. Areas of interest

Those on the call were asked about their areas of interest regarding consumer identity.  Several areas of interest were raised:

  • Identity as it relates to mobile telecom subscribers, including use of subscriber information contained in mobile devices.
  • Interest in, and adoption of, smart cards by consumers, including smart card technology on various form factors such as mobile devices, USB dongles, and plastic cards.
  • Privacy aspects of consumer identity, such as evaluating the risks to consumers when various items of personal data are breached.
  • Strong authentication of consumers.
  • Government ICAM initiative, including OpenID and Information Cards.
  • SAML 2.0, including Authentication Context, and its potential for use in consumer identity solutionsimplementations.

We agreed that it would make sense to solicit input from the other WG participants to find out where their interests lie.  We agreed that, whatever interests WG participants may have regarding consumer identity, sufficient expertise in these those areas must be available in order for the WG to produce useful output.

Bob will send out an email to the mailing list requesting participants to state that participants provide feedback regarding their areas of interest related pertaining to consumer identity.
