Hello everyone

This is the running update from the Executive Director. Have questions or comments? Suggest some added information or edits? Contact ED Colin at kantarainitiative dot org.

...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

As I type this on September 2nd - Labor Day in the US - I definitely sense the pace of activity picking up, not just in our digital identity and personal data industry, but across the spectrum of the public and private sectors, to say nothing of politics!  What an interesting next few months this will be..

The exciting news I was portending in last month's blog, was delayed by a few weeks but rest assured it is coming, so please watch out for it on the website and on social media during this month.

As we gather our strength for the re-start of the conference circuit through till year's end, I do hope that you had a break over the northern hemisphere summer, got some skiing done in the south, and are poised for what is about to descend upon us. Take a look at the sheer spread events that Kantara is speaking at on our Events page here - and while on the subject of events, Kantara has been offered complimentary passes to pass onto 5 lucky members for IDENTITY WEEK ASIA,  8-9th October 2019 at Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore. These passes are valued at $1000 so even if you are not yet a member, and reside nearby or are visiting during that period, join now and save!

As reported last last month Kantara staff have updated the the website and wiki over the summer while fielding increased expressions of interest for the assurance program in particular.

It's not only Staff that have been working hard. The Working Groups have been meeting largely as normal over the summer. UMA has continued to develop it business legal framework, Consent & Info Sharing is updating its charter, planning new deliverables and working on others, while Identity Assurance and Health Identity Assurance have both been contributing comments on draft documents from other industry and government bodies. To give you a sense of the depth and breadth of IAWG's contributions in particular, the 'Keeping up with Kantarians' newsletter coming out mid-month will highlight its selfless efforts 'to lift all boats' in our industry for the people we collectively serve.

This month we welcome back Individual Contributor member Ross Foard. Great to have you back with us in your individual capacity Ross..(wink)

On the community side of the house:

  • the Consent & Information Sharing WG (CISWG) continues its call for contributions (see it from the wiki landing page here) for the next build of the specification, and see the existing known implementations here
  • the UMA WG has its last call for contributions of UMA 2.0 profiles and extensions while also fine-tuning the business - legal framework model, while considering a re-submission to the IETF of the UMA specs as an Informational RFC in the Security Area.
  • meanwhile the Federation Interoperability WG is meeting regularly through the summer having had acceptance of SAML2INT Implementation profile in the REFEDS community and looking to perform analysis of extended features to evolve it into a Deployment Profile with a brand name tbd, with further development of educational and assurance tools. If you are part of the REFEDS community you really should take this opportunity to join this group.
  • and last but definitely not least is the emergence of the new FIRE (Federation Identity Resilient Ecosystem) WG, to carry on the work of the IDESG, whose assets transitioned to Kantara's Educational Foundation last year.

Enjoy August and if you are in the northern hemisphere possibly the last chance to relax and re-energize before the madness starts again in September!

Kind Regards,

Colin
