Use case "Your things are chatting - Social Internet of Things"

Introduction

The concept of inter-connectivity, as inspired by Social Networking Service (SNS), is a key factor in changing the way people interact with each other over the Internet. Meanwhile, Internet of Things (IoT) advocates a vision that everything will be connected to create a global network of things. By modeling the relationship between networked devices, a new trend of Social Internet of Things (SIoT), has come to being [GUINARD2010, ATZORI2012], in which it is possible to share data and functionalities toward a participative and collaborative use of things.

This SIoT use case is the perspective of a universal social network of everything including people and devices, introducing features of social networking into physical things around you. In particular, profiling and recommendation should be considered in order to fully realize the vision of SIoT.

Pre-requisites

- Each device or appliance is represented with a Web service identified by and URI and associating HTTP methods to be integrated into World Wide Web

- Each device is mapped with a SIoT account; each user has a SIoT account

- Each device or user has an IDENTITY

Requirements and open issues

- Each device should be part of the Social Internet of Things

- Each device should be able to interacting with users and other devices

- Each device should be able to send classified notification to different users

- Each user should be able to control his/her devices

- Each user should not be able to control others’ devices

Gaps derivated from this use case

What is the identity of the thing?

How can an thing authenticates itself  at the SIoT account?

Do we need a new name space for SIoT accounts? (Frank)
