This page is a working DRAFT for the purpose of LC review and recommendation development regarding a working reorganization vision of the Kantara Initiative WGs & DGs.

Summary:

At a recent Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, the Leadership Council (LC) recently raised discussion around WG and DG reporting structure in an effort to further engage the LC in the planning and activities of the organization.  The BoT recommended that the LC should engage all WG & DG leaders to determine if the structure of the organization may benefit from a review and refinement activity. The BoT also recognizes that any possible merging of WGs & DGs will require a review of IPR and process to handle convergence and manage potential risks.  Areas of impact to IPR are under the authority of the BoT.  Thus the request for LC recommendation should focus more toward a visualization of Kantara Initiative working structure rather than mechanics and process of merging WGs & DGs intellectual property.

Goal:

The goal of the LC WG/DG structure review is to produce a recommendation of reorganization to the BoT for consideration.

The LC recommendation may include approaches such as:

  • Convergence and merging of one or more WGs & DGs
  • Collection of specific WGs & DGs as "affiliated" under specific themes
  • A combination of both convergence and affiliation approaches
  • Another approach that is not listed above.

Themes:

An early proposal has been made to suggest two possible themes that may be fitting for application to all of the Kantara Initiative WGs & DGs. The draft themes are:

  • Connected Life: focusing on access management, identities of things, consent and notice, and identity relationship management.
  • Trust Services: focusing on scenarios that benefit from verification of services for both technology and policy deployment further enabling a trusted layer of interactions

Review:

The table below captures current "metadata" associated with the Kantara Initiative WGs & DGs.  The table is in DRAFT form and is under LC review currently.  The table provides a working mechanism to enable the LC to progress development of a recommendation to the Board of Trustees.

This page is VERY MUCH in DRAFT.  This set of metadata is for working purposes only and not authoritative. All LC members may update the page as they see appropriate. This page is for the purpose of LC planning for the future positioning of the WGs/DGs.Table cell colors are not indicative of a positive or negative assumption.  Rather cell colors are as a means to visually see differences from cell to cell.

Table Header Key:

  • ACTIVE is noted by if the group is having conference calls, using their email list, producing output
  • IPR is from the group charter
  • PROGRAM notes if the group is connected to the Assurance or Interop programs developments
  • INNOVATION notes if the group is working in a leading edge space where this work is not connected to a program
  • SCOPE rough estimate of where the group focuses most between technology and policy (sometimes both)
  • MEMBER OFFICER tied to developing discussions within the Board of Trustees seeking to understand if there is one Member officer in each group leadership.
