Label Redesign Survey

What will change behavior?

Is asking people the right way to find out? A/B testing?

Different Scenarios

  1. Familiarity
    1. They know and trust the company (The Data Recipient), at least for their current relationship, e.g., a Wells Fargo customer.
    2. They don't
  2. Purpose
    1. Inherent value proposition of the online service
    2. Marketing / promotions
  3. Data Sources
    1. Current page
    2. Elsewhere

Pre-Questions

Awareness of sharing

  1. When was the last time you shared data?
    1. Credit card?
    2. Search Queries?
    3. Shipping address?
    4. Facebook / Twitter status
    5. Photos
  2. When was the last time you refused
    1. Why?
    2. What could have changed your decision?
    3. Would any of these have changed your decision
      1. Endorsement by a friend
      2. Reputation
      3. Assertions of good behavior
        1. no reselling, etc.
  3. When do you regularly share information?
  4. Who have you shared data with
  5. What data
    1. have you shared
    2. are you willing to share
    3. are you not willing to share

Questions

What do you look for when considering information sharing?

What questions do you ask when you are deciding about information sharing?

How do you know that the information is going to be used as expected?

Questions that individuals have for Data Recipients

Why do you want this now?

What will you use it for later?

How long do you keep it? (Why?)

Are you going to keep it?

[NOTE: The now question speaks to granularity]

Purpose for end user may be to verify expectations, just as much as questioning..

Maybe the data transmission details are icing on the cake?

Or at best "over the horizon" option... something to explore rather than something in the forefront.

Nutition Facts labels, there are MANY different details that could be show stoppers for different people (fat, sugar, peanuts, gluten, etc...)

What are the obvious show stoppers for the information sharing label?

Perhaps its in the data. Name, address, DOB, rather than what they do with it.

Hypothesis: the better aligned the data requested with the value offered, the more likely you'll get the data.
