Incommon Update

  • They are working on the implementation of the Incommon Baseline Expectations for Trust in Federation. The Baseline expectation work addresses how the Identity Providers, Service Providers or Federation Operators operate or behave in the federation and meet the basic level of expectation of trust worthy operations. The Assurance Advisory is working on the process to implement the agreements that have been identified.
  • SIRTFI is a trust framework where the stakeholders are getting international agreement and exploring how to coordinate response security incident in the global federation context.
  • Assurance profile work with REFEDS. The signaling details will be published soon. Research simplified requirements will go to international consultation as soon as the multifactor profile is settled.
  • Trust and Identity Program Advisory Group, new community governing body to consult with the community and provide guidance for the creation and direction of Internet2 Trust and Identity programs and services including InCommon, TIER, and eduroam.

IAWG Update

  • Comment period on the updated 800-63-3-parent document.
  • Working towards the operationalization of approved CSPs to get listed on the IDESG Registry. In the process of drafting a MoU that includes the CSPs on boarding procedures.
  • Coordinating a meeting during the Internet2 Global Summit to discuss Collaboration on Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructures and Identity Assurance Frameworks.

Open Mic

  • It was suggested writing the 800-63-3 executive summary in plain language.
  • It was recommended that technologists in the federal government (NIST/GSA/FICAM/vendors) take in consideration the demand-side to move the identity authentication forward and drive agency adoption. The current challenge to engage internal stakeholders who perform and execute the business operations (mission support) of the agencies is a critical gap that slows the technology adoption and leads to inadequate identification of customer needs and requirements. Director of Unified Shared Services Management  (USSM) is re-writing how business of government will be executed and he started with financial management business. Some use cases of Identity Authentication would help to tackle financial problems.
  • It was stressed that it is vital to start the discussion about the implementation of 800-63-3 and how to engage the stakeholders on the expectations.
