RIUP Elections

Jim Kragh

RIUP 2024 elections: 3 nominees have stepped forward: Noreen Whysel, Justin Byrd and Jim Kragh.

Since Justin recently joined our WG this year, we asked him to share a little insight on his professional career:

Comments from Justin:

Originating from Scranton, PA, my professional journey has been dedicated to championing online safety, privacy, and inclusion. My experience in these areas has driven my commitment to ethical digital practices.    As the incoming Vice Chair of IEEE 7012, I am continuing to deepen my understanding of digital privacy and security. Additionally, I've led side discussions at InternetSafety Labs, focusing on the emergent risks of AI/ML, particularly in enhancing online safety and privacy. I am also a regular voting member of the Kantara DeepFakes working group and an active participant in W3C COGA, both are roles that demonstrate my deep involvement in key areas of digital ethics and accessibility.

My regional involvement with the Northern Tier Regional Planning & Development Commission's Get Connected program, now in Machi’s fourth round of grant funding, highlights my commitment to bridging the digital divide. This work, along with my academic contributions at Lackawanna College and my pursuit of a CIPP/US certification, underscores my dedication to the field of digital security and privacy.

I am also the lead Maker/Operator for Machi-Systems, a holistic small to medium-sized marketing and management agency (SMM). In addition to my technical expertise, I offer skills in holistic marketing and management for small to medium-sized projects. I am eager to contribute to facilitation, management, and leadership roles within RIUP/Kantara.

Please note, I am not currently a paying member of Kantara. I understand the importance of org-membership in leadership roles, similar to my arrangement with IEEE. Ideally, my involvement with RIUP could be included in the current year's dues and fees budget.

For a comprehensive view of my professional background, you can visit my LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-b-978277100/.

I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring my diverse experience to RIUP, particularly in advancing our shared goal of expanding digital access for underserved communities. I look forward to contributing as Vice-Chair in both technical and leadership capacities.

Have a nice evening,

Justin
