Speaking point: H2020 FundingÂ
Â
- Mark met with Jan Salvek, of PrimeLife project funded by H2020: 10-20k to put the proposal together; Kantara as anchor with European office; American support from Usable Privacy Project, MIT, and potentially the Ontario Privacy Commissioner
- Ann Cavoukian is stepping down as the Ontario Privacy Commissioner to create a new institute, which might make a good partner or else end up as competitor
- Need to approach companies versus foundations; need to be a legal entity to receive this funding; Kantara is not a legal entity (rather under IEEE); Issue of funding for fundraising? Need for expertise or credentials? Kantara adds to this versus lack of accountability in umbrella organisations? Open Knowledge Foundation can also be used for this purpose
- Could register Open Notice as legal entity but it is expensive and lacks credibility – not a viable option at the moment
- Two other proposals to H2020 seeking participation from Open Notice
- Mark & Colette went to GSMA Meeting on Privacy Trust Marks, there was a lot of interest for Open Notice and Consent Receipt project so there is a space to see how these approaches complement each other (Trust marks on consent receipts?); Consent receipt as vehicle to overcome trust mark issue of privacy compliance versus privacy friendliness? Benefit of helping overcome this issue and utilising the vast resources? Consulting on trustmarks?
- Action Point: How much would OKF take to be umbrella organisations, versus Kantara Initiative? Can Kantara Initive open a Brussles-based company by May?
- Action Point: Get Ann Cavoukian to support? Other Canadian input?
- Action Point: Get industry sponsorship!
