eGOV Meeting Notes 2010-10-19

What follows is a summary from the eGOV F2F session in Paris.

Meeting Notes:

  • So amongst the substantial amount of talk, we retraced our steps through the work done so far this year - the SAML 2.0 Implementation Profile for eGov V2.0, and Bob's draft Deployment profile template which met with broad approval.
  • We looked again at the work program going forwards...
  • While John really wants to get going with eGov Profiles of IMI and OpenID, we are still at the point that no other jurisdiction has come forward with requirements that can be put together with those from the US ICAM, to create an 'eGov' Profile. If or when they do, we'll do that work.  Till then, the US ICAM profiles will remain the default.
  • We briefly revisited the idea of profiling WS Trust.  Denmark's OIO profile (thanks Thomas!) is a really good base, but once again, until we have definite requirements from other governments, we can't broaden it.   Same with John's desire to profile WS-Fed.
  • We then looked at the huge topic of attribute exchange. There was quite a lot of interest across the board to have a go at this because of the need for such a thing from many quarters, but the space is huge. If we did, we would begin by just scoping the space by drafting a Table of Contents for some future document.
  • The final thing discussed circled back to almost the beginning - what more is needed in the SAML space to get us closer to consistent implementation and deployment?
  • John and Fulup are keen to develop a 'model' deployment with associated 'cookbook' of how to deploy. We would use the integration and deployment docs used by the existing gov deployments as a basis and try to consolidate and add to them, to form one piece of guidance.  They will need to explain this more because I have only had the info 2nd or 3rd hand.
  • Worthy of mention was a request to contribute any 'Gov' use cases and business cases for identity federation onto the Wiki/web site so that KI eGov can become a recognised repository of such information.
  • Just a quick mention on the wider meeting itself. It was really good, with 4 new DGs/WGs started by the European attendees! Man they 'get it'!!  Even the BoT managed to wrestle with the key challenges facing the organisation and chart a way forward. Be prepared to see some developments and changes going forward which will make your investment in KI give even more value!
