2020-05-05 Meeting notes

Since our last meeting several issues have surfaced, the main one being is there a more urgent need at hand that fits our IDEF mission as a result of the COVID 19 virus that is both trustworthy and end user/patient focused. A year ago the application rating system that Mary proposed was attractive and a value add for consumers but that was before COVID-19. There is now an identity crisis and patients presenting themselves at an ER were not able to obtain their medical records from various medical sites due to the lack of interoperability and authenticated identity.

HHS/Office of the National Coordinator, Dr Rucker, send last Friday that healthcare needed to automate and go digital now and they have funds. To that end ONC is having a special all day session June 1 on Identity and patient matching. Specifically, part of the needed solution is very much focused on providing an operational digital identity framework registry and a functioning trust registry and that is our FIRE mission today.
